AI News, October 2026: What Business Leaders Should Know
GPT-6, cheaper Claude models, persistent Google agents and EU watermarking: the AI developments from October 2026 that matter for planning and budgets.
GPT-6, cheaper Claude models, persistent Google agents and EU watermarking: the AI developments from October 2026 that matter for planning and budgets.

October 2026 brought GPT-6 to all ChatGPT plans, a Claude Haiku 5.5 model priced about 75% lower to run than its predecessor, a private preview of a persistent Gemini agent with its own Workspace account, and invisible text watermarking for EU ChatGPT users. The common thread is agents that act on their own, at lower cost, under tighter transparency rules.
This summary is based on public roundups of vendor announcements. Details such as pricing and availability can change, so confirm them with each provider before committing budget.
| Date | Development | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 7 Oct | OpenAI brings GPT-6 to ChatGPT on all plans, with an Intelligent UI that shows charts, forms and calculators inside the chat | Answers become interactive tools, not only text |
| 7 Oct | Anthropic releases Claude Haiku 5.5 at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens (requests up to 100,000 tokens) | Anthropic cites roughly 75% lower running cost than Haiku 4.5 |
| 12 Oct | Meta introduces Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, its first frontier models, aimed at agentic work with a focus on memory | A new competitor for agent-style workloads |
| 13 Oct | Gemini 4 Argon reaches Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, with a background tasks mode | Not available in the EEA, UK or work accounts |
Google Cloud opened a private preview of a Gemini agent that has its own Workspace account and email address, works across Google, Slack and Microsoft 365, can use Anthropic’s Claude models and runs under a hard spending cap per project. Microsoft has begun billing agentic Copilot work by usage in credits rather than per seat. Separately, Meta, Walmart, Stripe and others proposed an open protocol for how AI agents deal with businesses.
For leaders, the budgeting implication is clear: agent costs scale with activity, so spending caps and usage dashboards matter as much as the licence.
GPT-6 is OpenAI’s latest model family in ChatGPT, available across plans with a lighter version for free users and a stronger version on paid plans, plus an interface that can render charts and calculators in conversation.
Anthropic lists $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for requests up to 100,000 tokens.
GPT-4o, GPT-4o mini, GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini are scheduled for removal from the API on 14 January 2027.
Google’s persistent Gemini agent is in private preview, without confirmed pricing or a rollout date.
